Project Update

The Renton Parks & Recreation Department is proud to be leading the local planning effort in partnership with King County Parks to strengthen regional trail connections throughout Renton. Together, we're helping shape one of the Pacific Northwest's most significant trail systems while advancing a long-term vision for safer, more accessible connections between neighborhoods, parks, schools, businesses, and regional destinations.

Today, the Department operates and maintains more than 11 miles of regional trails and connecting pathways, including the Cedar River Trail, Lake to Sound Trail, Springbrook Trail, May Creek Trail, and connections to Eastrail. During summer 2026, Renton was honored to welcome the Eastrail Regional Advisory Council to Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park to discuss the future of Eastrail and the important role Renton plays in connecting communities throughout the region.

As Eastrail expands between Renton and Snohomish County, it is emerging as one of the Pacific Northwest's premier recreation and active transportation corridors — creating new opportunities to walk, bike, run, and explore the region while reducing reliance on a vehicle.

King County has committed a $60 million investment in regional trails in and around Renton through 2031. With the Renton Parks & Recreation Department leading the local collaborative process, this investment will help advance future trail connections that improve mobility, expand recreation opportunities, support the local economy, encourage healthy lifestyles, and enhance quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

This is more than a trail project — it's an investment in creating stronger connections between people, places, and opportunities. By strengthening connections between neighborhoods, parks, businesses, schools, and regional destinations, these improvements will expand access to recreation, support multimodal transportation, and help create a more connected and vibrant city for generations to come.
