2026 Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) funding

The City of Renton’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) reviewed 20 applications for 2026 tourism funds, with requests totaling $1,446,444.

The committee selected seven events and organizations to receive funding for the upcoming year. For 2026, the committee focused on supporting larger-scale events with a strong potential to generate confirmed hotel stays and deliver a measurable return on investment, meeting the state’s guidelines for funding.

A special emphasis was placed on events and activities at Legacy Square tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in addition to events hosted at local hotels.

While larger events are the primary focus, smaller community-based initiatives continue to be important contributors to Renton’s cultural vitality and well-being of our neighborhoods.

To further support community involvement during the World Cup, the City of Renton will issue a Request for Interest (RFI) for community groups to propose events and activities at Legacy Square. Selected community events will receive event space and a captive audience. Events would be held between June and October 2026. The RFI proposal is not yet live, but will be announced on the city’s website at rentonwa.gov/LTAC, and offered to applicants who were not selected for LTAC funding this cycle.

The LTAC funding selections are guided by Washington State regulations. These applications are then evaluated through transparent criteria established by the committee, ensuring fairness and strategic alignment with Renton’s tourism goals. It is important to note that city capital investments and marketing campaigns supported by LTAC funds do not require tracking of hotel stays (“heads and beds”).

LTAC funds are used for:

  • Marketing and operations of special events and festivals designed to attract tourists.
  • Operations and capital expenditures of tourism-related facilities owned or operated by municipalities or public facility districts.
  • Operations (excluding capital expenditures) of tourism-related facilities owned or operated by nonprofit organizations.
  • Eligible recipients include cities, counties, nonprofits, and tourism organizations engaged in promoting tourism-related activities and facilities.

We want to emphasize that LTAC funding decisions do not prevent events from taking place in Renton. Instead, they are designed to optimize tourism growth and economic vitality.

Reporting from 2025 events are due by the end of the year and will be available in early 2026.
