Correction on public statements regarding the Red Lion property

We are aware of recent public statements suggesting active collaboration between the City of Renton and an external organization regarding the Red Lion property. This information is inaccurate.

To clarify, last month, a 15-minute virtual permit counter meeting was held with Community & Economic Development (CED) staff to answer general zoning questions regarding the reuse of the Red Lion site. During this meeting, staff provided a high-level response to inquiries about Homeless Services Use and Transitional Housing within the CA zoning district. As is standard practice, staff provided code-related information only and recommended that the inquirer submit a formal narrative and proposal through a preapplication meeting for further discussion.

To be clear, no endorsement or support of any proposal was given. Additionally, the image circulating with the City’s logo over individuals’ heads is not from this meeting, nor are they city staff, as indicated by the incorrect platform and lack of our standard background with the city logo. We have requested that the misleading and inaccurate information be removed from all platforms, as it is creating confusion and concern in our community.
