A New Era for Downtown: Renton Market and Piazza Park Take Shape

First Legacy Square came to life, then Piazza Park, and now Renton Market. Downtown Renton has steadily transformed into a vibrant hub of activity. The Renton Market has reached a major milestone in that journey with all final building inspections approved.

With approval now in hand, the city is ready to turn over the keys to the market operator. Behind the scenes, the operator is working to recruit businesses for two permanent tenant spaces and 16 turn-key vendor stalls designed for start‑ups and small businesses to build their audience, grow, and launch their own brick-and-mortar space. This milestone brings us one step closer to welcoming the public into the new market this spring and summer.

The transformation of the former Pavilion Events Center has been a long‑anticipated component of the 2018 Civic Core Action Plan. Once open, Renton Market will offer a year‑round indoor marketplace featuring two permanent anchor tenants, flexible vendor spaces, a classroom kitchen for culinary programming, and public restrooms, creating a welcoming and accessible destination for both entrepreneurs and visitors.

Just steps outside the market’s doors, the newly revamped Piazza Park has already made an impression on visitors, especially those who experienced it during this summer’s Renton Farmers Market. Serving as a natural extension of the Renton Market, the revitalized plaza functions as an outdoor lobby to support daily foot traffic, community gatherings, and a more enjoyable pedestrian experience in downtown.

Construction is nearing completion, with final touches underway on the stage and bench installations. Phases completed earlier this summer brought significant upgrades, including new concrete, redesigned pathways, enhanced vegetation, and safety‑focused features guided by Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design principles. The result is a more open, welcoming, and secure environment for residents and visitors.
