The Renton Civic Academy is back for the 2026 session. The Renton Civic Academy is an eight-week program available for Renton residents and businessowners who are ready to take the next step in being an informed and involved community member.
Renton’s Civic Academy program offers residents an inside look on how the city operates. Participants will learn the basics of local government and understand the roles and drivers of the different departments.In interactive workshops, hands on activities, and conversation with city leadership,participants willdeepen their understanding of the internal operations of City of Renton.With participants expanded insight of Renton, graduates can help empower their community by using their voices.

Structure
The 2026 Civic Academy will meet weekly on Thursday nights, beginning on Thursday, January 22nd and concluding on Thursday, March 19th. The Civic Academy will not meet on Thursday, February 19th in alignment with the Renton School District Mid-Winter Break.
Please note the first session will be 3-hours from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. The rest of the seven weeks will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. The Academy will meet at various locations around the city; this will be communicated in the registration confirmation email (locations subject to change).

Application Details
Applications will open shortly and will be available on this page. The deadline to apply will be announced on this page.
Please note, seats are limited. Waitlisted applicants from the 2025 Civic Academy session will be contacted and given priority before applications open to the public.
To participate, individuals must commit to attending at least six out of the eight sessions. Participants that miss more than two sessions will not receive a Renton Civic Academy Certificate upon completion of the program. Only those who have successfully applied and received confirmation of acceptance will be allowed to attend the academy.
