Roughly 14 people joined CAO Ed VanValey at Four Generals.
Renton Safety Action Plan
- The City's Transportation Division introduced the Safety Action Plan to guests. The survey will open to the public in a few weeks, public invited to give feedback through Spring, Summer. Point: to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on Renton streets.

Sound Transit Groundbreaking
- The new facility will include eight bus bays, covered waiting areas, and a new four-way signalized intersection to improve bus flow.
- The project also adds sidewalks, lighting, multi-use paths, expands the existing two-way bike lane on Shattuck Avenue South, and installs new stormwater bioswales, vegetation, and plantings.
- TOD Development planned around a new transit center.

- Facility moves out of downtown and to Grady, creating more opportunity for both areas.
Question: What is happening to the current transit center?
- Pavilion will remain and serve as incubator for business, market, retail spaces, and connected Piazza and Legacy Square – to serve as arts and culture hub.
- Community and Economic Department goal is to draw in experiential businesses and foot traffic to downtown core.

Question: With the new transit center, will there be a different approach to crime?
- Yes, the space will be activated with businesses and well-lit areas. These are factors that deter and decrease criminal behavior.
- The Police Department’s bike unit will be relocated downtown to have a closer presence.
Alaska Airlines Training Headquarters in Renton
- Video available online to view the training being done at the new headquarters
- The Puget Sound Region is preparing for the World Cup. Teams will be announced in March.
- VanValey shared about the interlocal agreement the police department has in place with surrounding agencies to support Renton if needed. During matches and events at the new Legacy Square, there will be an additional four police officers for every event.
- CED Administrator Gina Estep shared that the city is working with event consultants who will also provide private security for events.
- In 2025 the city’s Emergency Management Division along with Renton PD and Renton RFA held a full-scale practice in preparation for the World Cup.
Immigration Enforcement Update
- ICE is in Renton. ICE does not coordinate with the Police Department. The Police Department does not know if and when ICE will appear in Renton.
- Residents are encouraged to call the Police Department for any strange activities.
- Mayor Pavone has released a statement and Chief Schuldt has released a statement.
Cedar River Trail
- The city is working with Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance.

Question: Why is part of the trail closed?
- The flood caused a part of the road to be eroded

Question: Will King County check the entire Cedar River Trail?
- Yes

Question: How will the city/county handle the erosion control?
- State goes out with rocks, then in the Summer there will be a full evaluation of the river.
- Revetment project (bank stabilization) that King County has had in the works since the 2020 flood happening this summer.
Question: With the renovation of the Pavilion and addition of Legacy Square, will there be more parking enforcement?
- The downtown area is zoned differently.
Question: What can the city do about abandoned vehicles?
- This is being looked into.
Question: Can the city enforce residential parking permits?
The city does not have the resources to enforce residential parking permits; however we will look into a 2005 parking permit that was brought to our attention.
