    Hello, Maggie!

Since the permit was picked up in June, the property owner has been doing internal demo, which is anticipated to take 8-10 months. Of course, the internal demo won't be very visible from the outside. They are, however, making a lot of progress, and we (the City) have inspectors on site daily to ensure Code compliance.

Adequate fencing to secure the property remains an issue.  Securing the site is a priority, and the City is working with the property owner to obtain adequate fencing or 24-hour security to comply with the existing Voluntary Correction Agreement to address a variety of issues at the site.

The demolition crew has been removing the trash onsite; however, there are a few remaining problem areas. Trash at these locations should be cleaned up this week.

Once the internal demo is completed, the last stage will be the external walls. However, it’s important to note that at any time, the owner may find a buyer and developer interested in redeveloping or repurposing the existing buildings. Equally important, the City is not privy to the property owner’s business model, therefore, the City cannot predict if redevelopment might occur prior to complete demolition.

The City will, however, continue to utilize the tools legally available to ensure Code compliance and ultimately see the site redeveloped into a positive contributing site within our community.
