- Tomorrow, Friday, December 5, the draw for teams playing in Seattle will be determined for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In addition, Renton will find out if we are a basecamp for teams to practice. Keep an eye out for the latest news on how the city is preparing for this global event in the city's newsroom.
- We are introducing 'This Month in Renton', a monthly newsletter from the mayor's office that goes in-depth on big city issues. As news comes in, check out the city's newsroom(External link) and subscribe to a specific topic of interest to get the news you are looking for directly.
- The 2026 legislative session begins January 12. Follow the city's webpage for updates on what we are prioritizing this session.
- Civic Academy returns for its second year. Last year was the inaugural year of the program. This is a great opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the city operates. Learn more about the program and apply before December 8.
- What's Brewing with our Chief Administrative Officer Ed VanValey returns. Take this opportunity to learn about city projects and initiatives and ask questions! Ed will be at Four Generals Brewing on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. All events will be posted to the city's calendar and Facebook events.
- Save the date for the 2025 State of the City address on March 25, 2026, back again at the Hyatt Regency Lake Washington. This is a great opportunity to get an inside look at the progress the city has made over the past year and what is ahead.
- 2025 has been filled with many accomplishments from the city. As we enter the holiday season, we wish everyone a happy holiday, and we look forward to the continued progress in the new year!

- The Renton Municipal Airport held the grand opening of their new administrative office. In addition to celebrating the airports 100th anniversary. View the recap from the ribbon cutting.
- The City of Renton, Renton School District, and HCP OneHealthPort joined nonprofit and healthcare partners to celebrate the success and continued growth of the Renton Student Health Hub, a collaborative initiative aimed at improving student access to behavioral health and housing services that now serves all 26 schools in the Renton School District and has connected more than 100 students to direct care to date. - Construction progresses in downtown Renton with Legacy Square and Renton Market projects underway. Find updates about each project here.
- From Legacy Square to resources for businesses, Renton is getting ready for the 2026 World Cup. Learn about additional resources and information about how the city is preparing small businesses for this global event.
- I joined a small delegation to visit our sister city of Nishiwaki, Japan. We celebrated the 20th anniversary of the city's expansion and proposed a culinary exchange program with Renton Technical College. Read my blog about this delegation.

- The Renton Municipal Airport will have hold the grand opening of their new administrative office later this month. The airport has also finished several major projects including a repaving project. Learn more about the airport.
- We recognized Workforce Development Month for the first time in the city with a reception and proclamation. Read the full release.
- During the month of October we will recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Filipino American Heritage Month, and Community Planning Month. Find past proclamations and recognitions here.
- The Community and Economic Development Department will receive a VISION 2050 award from Puget Sound Regional Council this month for project planning on the Rainier / Grady Junction Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Subarea Plan. Learn more about the project here.
- Construction progresses in downtown Renton with Legacy Square and Renton Market projects underway. Find updates about each project here.
- Renton Emergency Management will be partnering with local agencies and city staff to conduct training and drills in preparation for events held in summer of 2026. Learn more about Emergency Management.
- Final paving is underway for Rainier Ave. S. Phase 4 project with an expected completion by mid-October (weather permitting). Find updates on the project here.
- It is Halloween season. Attend one of several family-friendly events this month, including Truck-or-Treat and Renton Downtown Partnership Halloween and costume contest event. Find all events on the city's calendar.

- This summer, the Hyatt Regency Lake Washington introduced a new a floating pickleball court as a new experience to have in Renton. Learn more about this experience.

- September is Ready in Renton Month, and we’ll be sharing tips throughout the month on staying safe and how to get information from the city during emergencies.
- The fall recreation guide is out now! Find new programs and community favorites for residents of all ages.
- The city is exploring the potential for small shops and businesses in neighborhoods. We have an open call for public input, let us know your thoughts. Learn more about Neighborhood Retail.
- Last month, the council approved the Renton Promise, which will allow Renton School District high school graduates to attend Renton Technical College tuition-free for the first two years.
- Our finance department recently received the highest honor from the State Auditor's Office, the Stewardship Award for excellence. Read the full release here.

- Update on 500 Park Building
- The ribbon cutting of the Solera and Astra apartments in the Sunset Neighborhood on June 21. This is yet another crucial project completed as part of the revitalization of the Sunset Neighborhood.
- Progress and updates on Rainier Ave. Phase 4 project. Paving begins shiortly, as the project comes to completion.
- Cedar River Park expansion. The city is acquiring a vacant lot of approximately 12.5 acres to add to the existing 23-acre park as part of a long-term plan to expand Cedar River Park.
- Thank you for celebrating Renton River Days 2025 with us! Next year will be the 40th anniversary.
- Construction on Legacy Square and the downtown Pavilion move forward bringing to life the the long-term Renton Downtown Civic Core Vision and Action Plan.
