We’re excited to journey with residents to rejuvenate Maplewood Park’s playground. The current playground equipment has served children for nearly 20 years and is due for an update. This project aims to replace the aging equipment and safety surfacing, enlarge the playbox area slightly, and introduce new features to enhance fun and safety.

Here’s what we have in store:

  • New playground equipment: The city's Parks and Recreation Department will be updating the playground with state-of-the-art equipment designed to inspire creativity, physical activity, and social interaction.
  • Expanded playbox area: The play area will be slightly enlarged to ensure adequate safety fall zones. Please note that the expansion will be constrained by existing underground utilities, such as gas lines, which limit the amount we can increase the playbox area.
  • Enhanced safety and comfort: We’re exploring options for increasing shade in this portion of the park, potentially through tree plantings, to provide a more enjoyable environment for our young explorers. However, these underground utilities will also influence the placement of trees to ensure safety and proper growth.

This project is not just about upgrading equipment—it’s about creating a space that reflects the community’s values and needs.

THANK YOU to everyone who came out August 23rd to talk about Playground Ideas! Please submit your thoughts by September 15, 2024 through the "Ideas / Have Your Say" button below. This early feedback will help Parks & Rec staff craft a comprehensive Request for Proposals (RFP) for playground vendors. Additionally, as the design proposals start to take shape, you’ll have the opportunity to provide feedback.

Together, let’s create a vibrant and safe playground that children will cherish for years to come. We look forward to your participation and enthusiasm as we work to bring this vision to life!
